This can tighten the muscles around our ribs, affecting the muscles around our diaphragm and restrict our breathing and prevent our lungs from filling to their maximum capacity.

The diaphragm that regulates our breathing is connected to our anterior side of our lumbar spine, can become stuck if our bodies are tense or out of balance.

This can reduce our blood flow and lead to poor circulation. It can also affect our mood and our thought processes.

Stress and anger can also disrupt your breathing patterns. 

Good poise and balance. Where we are sitting out our full natural height and expansion (Without tensing or stiffening) can help to release our diaphragm and activate better circulation.

When people are feeling stressed, angry, anxious and tense or they're trying to relax. They will sometimes, try to control their breathing.

This can give temporary relief. But, it is hard to breathe properly, if your body is still tense, you have shortened in stature or your body is out of balance and sync.

Some people suck their stomach in, hold a lot tension, lift up their chest or they slouch forwards. All of these can interfere with your natural breathing process.

In order to breathe properly, your stomach should be nice and relaxed. 

To re-adjust, relax your stomach then breathe deeply and allow your stomach to push out and relax and then breathe in and repeat a few times.

Stopping the stressful response

At times when we feel challenged, we can forget to breath or we hold our breaths.

When you begin to feel stressed or anxious don't fight it.  Just consciously step in and take back control of your breathing, which will prevent all the other unpleasant physical symptoms from gathering momentum. 

All you have to do is on the onset of any stress or anxiety, just deliberately breathe out for longer first then breath in.

And then continue you to take slow deep breaths, making sure the outbreath is longer than the in one whilst releasing any tension at the same time.

This can prove a hard to do to begin with because you're going against the normal patterns of the fight or flight response, but it is necessary if you want to avoid all the unneeded adrenaline, stress and anxiety. 

Also, do not allow your imagination to trick you into believing that you're in danger, just ignore what's being played out in your mind and calmly continue to focus on your breathing a bit like you would if you were meditating.

So, when you start to feel anxious, fearful or stressed stop and pause for a moment and just focus on your breathing. 

Try not to become engaged or overwhelmed by your imagination or the physical feelings you're experiencing in your body because what you're aiming for is to stop the negative momentum from gathering pace.

Just focus on your breathing and begin to take some slow, deep breaths in for the count of five, hold for three then slowly breathe out for the count of seven, push all the way out and keep on repeating. 

If you carry on doing this and as long as you don't get too distracted and negatively respond to your fearful thoughts and feelings, your body will start to return back to a more relaxed state. 

The key is not to wrestle with your feelings, but just let them come and go and all you need to do is keep on breathing.

You can also do this before you enter a situation where you normally feel stressed or challenged, it's all about retraining your body so you longer respond stressfully in those old stressful situations and events.

Take some slow, deep breaths, make the out breath longer than the in breath, take a deep slow breath in, hold for a few seconds and then take a slow controlled longer out breath. 

Your right which is being held on your stomach should rise up and down whilst your left hand should stay still.
