How to lose weight and keep it off

One of the biggest causes of failures is because they have not addressed the emotional issues that caused them to comfort or binge eat in the first place.

Reducing your stress and resolving your emotional issues

Your minds primary job is to try and push you to move you away from pain and drive you towards doing and engaging in things that bring you pleasure.

However, for those people who are overweight this, the age old evolutionary process of the brain, can severely back fire.

This is exactly what happens in the case of emotional eating. People who are overweight, tend to eat to help them deal with a personal problem or a bad or stressful day.

This happens because, their minds have learned to come to associate certain foods, usually the higher, in sugar content foods and snacks, that taste nice, with pleasure.

If you're having a bad day, rather letting your mind wander on to negative thoughts and things, try and keep upbeat, positive and optimistic.

Make your healthy foods look and taste great

When you feel hungry, instead of trying to battle with your natural desire to eat. 

Try replacing the unhealthy foods with healthier options.

To begin with, eating healthy can feel not very appealing to some. 

The truth is, eating healthy, nutritious  foods, is a basic necessity and requirement of your body.

Avoid late night snacking. If you have to eat in the evening, try fruit options, or things like celery or carrot sticks.

That way, you will still satisfy your hunger, but you will  be eating low sugar, low calories rich in nutrition foods and healthier options.

Many people are not very keen on the taste of healthier foods. But, these days there is a much better range, of tasty, but healthier options.

With a bit of research, experimenting and reading. You can start to make and create your own tasty but healthy meals.

Add some colorful vegetables, fruits and berries, to make your meals look more pleasing to your eye, and learn how to turn bland foods, into tastier ones.

You can also use colored plates, to add a bit more visionary appeal, to your healthy meals.

Inflammation and weight gain

Sometimes you can start off well, and see some good steady results, then you can hit a plateau, where the rate of weight loss slows down, or you even reach a point, where you have virtually stopped, losing weight.

This is where, even though you're doing everything right, you hit a point, where you seem to struggle to get past or make any more weight loss gains.

There could be a number of very good reasons, for why this happens. Some of the reason, could be.

  • Inflammation in the body
  • A nutritional imbalance or deficiency

Be aware that it does not matter if you fail several times because as long as you are determined you will find the successful formula that suits you in the end, sometimes failure is just an opportunity to try a different approach. 

Because there are a lot of things to consider, it may be advisable for you to visit your doctor or dietician first just to seek their professional advice and expertise. 

Some people recommend you to skip breakfast because they believe by doing this it will encourage your body to burn up fat faster.

However, this is not always a good idea and it is not true because all that it will do is it will leave you feeling hungry later on.

Because you will miss out on the chance to start the day off with a healthy and filling breakfast which will cause you to end up consuming more unhealthy food later on in the day. 

Research has revealed that people who start the day off eating two boiled eggs actually said they felt much less hungry around lunch time leading to them more likely to consume less food. 

Although it can help to have a filling breakfast, it is still important to eat a healthy breakfast, otherwise it will defeat the object. 

Any type of protein consumed for breakfast like yogurt and fruit, omelettes, boiled egg on toast, oily fish such as salmon or mackerel or muesli with fruit and nuts can contribute to help with losing weight.

Statistically, thinner people eat a healthy breakfast while overweight people actually tend to miss out on their breakfast.

Plus by starting the day off with a healthy breakfast you're less likely to binge eat later on at night and you will have a better chance of burning off the calories than you would eating late at night just to top up your blood sugar cravings.

If you can train yourself, to try not to eat too much, after your tea time meal. Then, you will wake up feeling hungry, so you will find it easier to eat your healthy breakfast alternative.

Enjoy your journey to becoming that thinner you, if you make losing weight a laborious task and you're not inspired about doing, then you will run the risk of becoming frustrated, unmotivated and eventually this can lead you to give up. 

Avoid Weekend Binge Eating

Another common mistake made is some are under the mis-conception that if you eat a healthy diet in the week you are allowed to binge eat at the weekends eating anything you want. 

There are some diets that allow you to eat the foods you like on a weekend, which is OK so long as you don't do it to the point of excessive eating.

Although there is no harm in eating the foods you like, it can be a good idea to a degree because it will stop you craving for them. 

But is it is not recommended that you eat well in the week, but go mad at the weekend, the ideal scenario is to eat some of the foods you like in moderation along with the healthier foods rather than keep switching from eating healthy and less in the week than overindulging in junk food come the weekend.

If you do have some junk food on the weekend do not feel bad about this, you should indulge in a few eating pleasures, just resort back to the healthier food come the next meal. 

The big mistake most people make is they have high calorie meal so they convince themselves they might as well eat junk food for the rest of the weekend and start again on Monday morning.
